天気予報でよく使われる「advisory 」の意味とは？
私がシアトルに住み着いてもうしばらく経ちますが、年々夏が暑くなっていっている気がします。
ワシントン・ポスト紙でシアトルの今年の暑さが取り上げられていたので読んでみたところ、”advisory” という単語が2回出てきました。
A heat advisory is in effect through Saturday afternoon for Seattle, Tacoma and the east Puget Sound lowlands, and an excessive heat warning has been issued for the valleys of western Oregon.

“advisory” は「勧告」という意味です。天気予報で使われると「注意報」になります！
advisory: an official announcement that contains advice, information, or a warning
（アドバイスや情報、警告を含む公式発表のことなんですね〜）
つまり、冒頭の文章はこう書かれていたのでした。

（熱気注意報は土曜日の午後までシアトル市、タコマ市、東ピュージェット・サウンドの低地で発令中。また、西オレゴンの渓谷では熱気警報が発令されている。）

というわけで、シアトルは今年、記録を叩き出しました。今週水曜日、華氏90度以上を越える日数が歴代最高記録と並んだのです。さらに木曜ももれなく華氏90度以上を記録したので、記録更新です！
