ゴールデン・グローブ賞のトリビアを紹介する記事で目にした「banquet」の意味とは？
年末から映画界は賞レースに突入し、米時間1/10（木）にはアカデミー賞のノミネートも発表されますが、今週末にはアカデミー賞前哨戦ともいわれる第70回ゴールデン・グローブ（Golden Globes）賞の発表が控えています。
高まる興奮を胸に、今日は『ゴールデン・グローブ賞について知らなかった10のこと』という記事を読んでみました。

補足
というわけで、この記事ではゴールデン・グローブ賞に関する小ネタが10個紹介されていました。
- ロサンゼルスを拠点とする HFPA は、海外ジャーナリストらが結束したり意見交換したり、ハリウッド・スターへの接触をはかったりすることを目的に1943年に設立された。
- 最初に賞が贈られたのは1994年。20世紀フォックスのスタジオで非公式に開催された。最初の主演女優賞は、『聖処女（The Song of Bernadette）』（1943）のジェニファー・ジョーンズ。『聖処女』は作品賞も受賞している。主演男優賞は『ラインの監視（Watch on the Rhine）』（1943）のポール・ルーカスだった。当時、賞は巻物の形で授与されていた。
- 1945年、ゴールデン・グローブ賞の表彰式とともに、HFPA（ハリウッド外国人映画記者協会）主催のにぎやかな親睦パーティがビバリーヒルズ・ホテル（Beverly Hills Hotel）で初めて開催された。
- 1945年の作品賞は『我が道を往く（Going My Way）』。イングリッド・バーグマンとアレクサンダー・ノックスがそれぞれ主演女優賞と主演男優賞に輝いた。

- 長編アニメ作品賞が始まったのは2007年。現在は映画14部門、テレビ11部門の全25部門にわかれている。この中で、「作品賞」「主演男優賞」「主演女優賞」「監督賞」「脚本賞」の主要5部門制覇を達成したのは、『カッコーの巣の上で（One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest）』（1975）のみ。
- ゴールデン・グローブの最多受賞者はメリル・ストリープ（8回）。次いでジャック・ニコルソン（6回）、以下フランシス・フォード・コッポラ、シャーリー・マクレーン、ロザリンド・ラッセル、オリバー・ストーン（5回）と続く。ロザリンド・ラッセルはノミネートされた5回全てで受賞しているが、アカデミー賞は一度も受賞したことがない。マーロン・ブランドは1973年の『ゴッドファーザー（The Godfather）』による受賞に際してアメリカの「帝国主義と人種差別」に反抗し、受賞を拒否した。マーロン・ブランドは同年のアカデミー賞においても受賞を拒否している。
The HFPA, which is based in Los Angeles, was formed in 1943 as a way for international journalists to band together, exchange ideas and gain access to Hollywood stars.
The organizion’s first awards took place in 1944 with an informal ceremony at the 20th Century Fox studios. Jennifer Jones received the best actress award for ‘The Song of Bernadette,’ which also won for best film, while Paul Lukas won best actor for his role in ‘Watch on the Rhine.’ Awards were presented in the form of scrolls.

The actual Golden Globe award appeared in 1946, when HFPA President Marina Cisternas came up with the idea of using a statuette of a “golden globe” with a film strip encircling it.
In 1952 the HFPA created the Cecil B De Mille Award to recognize “outstanding contribution to the entertainment field.”
The first recipient was De Mille himself.
In 1955 the Golden Globes began honoring achievements in television as well as film. Honorees in the best television show category that year included ‘Lucy & Desi’ and ‘Davy Crockett.’
In 2007 the Golden Globes started an award for best animated feature film. The awards now recognize achievements in 25 categories, with 14 in motion pictures and 11 in television. ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’ is the only film to win the Globe in all five major categories (best motion picture, best actor, best actress, best director and best screenplay).
Meryl Streep has won the most Golden Globes (eight), followed by Jack Nicholson (six) and Francis Ford Coppola, Shirley MacLaine, Rosalind Russell and Oliver Stone (five apiece). Rosalind Russell won all five Golden Globes she was nominated for, though she never won an Oscar. Marlon Brando refused his best actor Globe for “The Godfather” in 1973 to protest US “imperialism and racism.” He also refused his Oscar statuette that year.
というわけで、これらは全てゴールデン・グローブ賞の公式サイトにも載っているのですが、私は知らないことだらけでした。主要5部門を制覇したのが『カッコーの巣の上で』だけ、というのが個人的には一番の驚きです。
ちなみに、今年のセシル・B・デミル賞の受賞者は、ジョディ・フォスター（Jodie Foster）。『タクシー・ドライバー』（1976）では13歳だった彼女も、今年50歳になられました。
司会は、3年連続だったリッキー・ジャーヴェイス（Ricky Gervais）に代わり、エイミー・ポーラー（Amy Poehler）とティナ・フェイ（Tina Fey）が務めます。
